Venerable Virginia Blanco Tardío


Second of four daughters of Louis Pius White Unzueta and Daria Late Quiroga. Taught catechism to children in her parish. Earned a Bachelor of Humanities at the College of the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus; Professor of Catechetics at age 32 with a deep knowledge of the Bible and theology. Taught religion in public schools for 40 years, 10 of then as an unpaid volunteer. Married lay woman. Devoted her life to help the needy. Brought Catholic Action to Cochabamba, Bolivia; president of the Diocesan Women’s Association of Catholic Action. Founded Comedores Sociales (now part of Policlinico Rosario) to feed the poor of her city, work that continues under the leadership of Venerable Virginia’s sister Maria Teresa Saravia.
