Venerable Santina CollaniProfile

Born to a peasant family, her mother died when Santina was only four years old; as her father was still serving in the military due to World War I, and she was raised by two elderly unmarried aunts in the area of Cremona, Italy. From her childhood, Santina felt a call to religious life, and in 1939 she became a consecrated lay sister in the Work of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Cremona. In 1949 she joined the Institute of the Merciful Sisters in Rionero, Italy, taking the name Sister Maria Santina. Taught at a school in Monteverde near Avellino, Italy. Assigned to work at a home for the elderly in Borgo d’Ale, Vercelli, Italy, she also developed a ministry to the poor and neglected in the city.
