Venerable Giovanni Maoloni

Venerable Giovanni MaoloniAlso known as

  • Marcellino of Capradosso

The fourth of six children born to the farming family of Pasqual Maoloni and Serafino Caioni, Giovanni worked the fields as a child and youth, did not attend school, and learned to read and write and home. He joined the Capuchin Franciscans at Fossombrone, Italy on 6 April 1902, taking the name Brother Marcellino of Capradosso. Transferred to Fermo, Italy in 1903, he served his few remaining years as questant, gardener, beggar and infirmarian for his house, spiritual advisor for the people of the city. Known as humble, hard working, and an example of Franciscan living, he spent his nights in prayer. During treatment for the peritonitis that eventually killed him, he once had surgery when no anesthesia was available; he clutched a crucifix and prayed through it.
