Francisco’s father died when the boy was eleven months old, his mother when he was five years, and he was raised by his uncles in Granada, Spain. He studied at the Jesuit College of El Palo in Malaga, Spain from 1892 to 1897. Married to Concha García Calvo in 1904. Their daughter, Venerable Conchita Barrecheguren, was born on 27 November 1905 and died on 13 May 1927. Francisco was left alone in 1937 when his wife Concha died.

A pious man all his life, at age 65 Francisco felt a call to full religious life, and joined the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorist Missionaries) in Granada, making his profession at Nava del Rey, Valladolid, Spain on 24 August 1947. After further studies, he was ordained a priest in Madrid, Spain on 25 July 1949. Returning to Granada, he served the rest of his life as a very active and involved parish priest, and assisting the research for the canonization of his daughter.
