Venerable Enzo Boschetti

Venerable Enzo BoschettiAlso known as

  • Brother Giuliano

Middle of three children born to a poor, rural family, the son of Esterina and Silvio Boschetti, a truck driver. A member of Catholic Action in his youth, and retreats with the organization led to him having a call to religious life. He became a Carmelite friar in 1949, taking the name Fra Giuliano. He served as a missionary to Kuwait, and developed a devotion to Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, but realized his call was to the parish priesthood. After studies in Rome, Italy, he was ordained a priest of the diocese of Pavia, Italy in 1962. Founder of the Casa del Giovane community in Pavia, which works with the poor, with neglected young people and especially with those suffering from gambling and drug addictions. He developed and promoted a devotion to Saint Joseph as the model for those who would work there. The pressure of his work led to a brief hospitalization in the 1980’s for mental health issues.
