Profile
Born to a poor family, the third of nine brothers. His family was imprisoned and starved during World War I. After the war, at age 13, he became an apprentice in the shipyard at Pola, Italy. He joined Catholic Action, became a Franciscan tertiary, and worked with young people. Sailor in the Italian navy for two years; in the military he studied drawing and became a draftsman in the shipyard. He taught catechism in his parish, and worked in the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. He spent his last year in hospital where he ministered to anyone there who was in need; as he became weaker he gave himself over to a ministry of prayer for missionaries.
