Venerable Cosme Muñoz Pérez

Venerable Cosme Muñoz PérezProfile

Baptized on 19 April 1573 in the parish of Santa María del Vado in Villar del Rio, Spain. As a young man, he felt a call to the military life, enlisted in Malaga, Spain, and served in the royal galleys for four years. As a civilian, he worked in clerical and secretarial positions. A severe illness caused Cosme to re-examine his life, and when he recovered, he sold all he had, gave the money to the poor, and tried to join the Franciscans in Córdoba, Spain. He was rejected by them for not knowing the required Latin. Following additional studies, he was ordained a priest of the diocese of Córdoba. Founded the Congregation of the Daughters of the Patronage of Mary.
