Venerable Anfrosina Berardi

Venerable Anfrosina BerardiProfile

Child in the archdiocese of L’Aquila, Italy, born to a peasant family. In April 1931, when she was 10 years old, Anfrosina had appendicitis with severe abdominal pain; the pain only increased after the appendectomy, caused by a fast-growing intestinal blockage. Her brother took her to Rome, Italy to try to obtain better care, but nothing helped, and they returned home. She made her First Communion and Confirmation on 13 October 1932, but was bed-ridden after that. She received Communion at home from her parish priest who would find her enraptured, seeing and conversing with the Blessed Virgin Mary. The final months of Anfrosina’s life were lived in constant prayer, and she became an example to the many people who visited her; she spent her time with them cheering them up and encouraging their faith.
