Saints of the Day – Didier of Thérouanne, Bishop

(also known as Desiderius) Died 1194. Desiderius was the 33rd bishop of Thérouanne and founder of the Cistercian abbey of Blandecques (Blandyke; a word with special significance for those who have attended Jesuit schools in England) near Saint-Omer. At the end of his life he resigned and prepared for death in a Cistercian monastery. He is usually styled a saint and is claimed by the Cistercians as one of their own (Attwater2, Benedictines).
