Saints in Art – Saints Afra and Julia

(Patron Saints of Brescia) (5th August)

Both were virgin martyrs, and have churches dedicated to them. They are often associated in pictures with Saint Apollonius, the Bishop, and Saints Faustinus and Jovita, all patrons of Brescia.

In the Church of Saint Afra, Brescia, is a picture of the martyrdom, ascribed to Veronese.
