Priest in Lyons in Gaul (in modern France). Imprisoned for his faith during the persecutions of Marcus Aurelius, when released he became a missionary along the Saône River. Arrested again, he was publicly tortured during a pagan festival, then buried to the waist and left to die of his wounds and exposure; it took three days. Martyr.
