Studied under Peter Abelard. Father Guido was known as a serious man who took his vocation very seriously indeed. Created Cardinal-Deacon of San Maria in Via Lata in 1128 by Innocent II. Cardinal-Priest of San Marco in December 1133. Papal legate to France in 1140. Elected pope in 1143. Removed the papal interdict over France, and granted absolution to King Louis VII. Reigned less than six months.
