Martyr, first Christian duchess of Bohemia, born Mielnik, c.860; died Tetin, 921. She and her husband, Boriwoi, were baptized by Saint Methodius, 871. Her daughter-in-law, Drahomira, jealous of the influence which Ludmilla wielded over her grandson, Wenceslaus, caused her to be strangled. Patroness of Bohemia. Feast, 16 September.
