New Catholic Dictionary – Blessed John Story


(John Storey) Martyr, born 1504, died Tyburn, England, 1571. He was president of Broadgates Hall, now Pembroke College. Entering Parliament in 1547 he was imprisoned for opposing the Bill of Uniformity. He went to Louvain, but returned in 1553, and became chancellor to Bishop Bonner. Once more in Parliament, he was again imprisoned, this time for opposing the Bill of Supremacy. He fled to Antwerp, was arrested there, brought to England, and put to death in the Tower, for his faith. Beatified, 1886.
