Joseph Charles Benziger

Founder of a Catholic publishing house and religious goods business. Established in 1800, the company took the name of “Benziger Brothers” when Joseph was succeeded in 1833 by his sons, Charles and Nicholas. It still exists at Einsiedeln, Switzerland under their descendants. The Vatican conferred the title “Printers to the Holy Apostolic See” on the company in 1867; many of the source works on this web site were originally published by Benziger. After a series of purchases, mergers and re-organizations, the American branch is now known as RCL Benziger, and is based in Allen, Texas.
