imposition of hands

In the old dispensation (Genesis 48:14, Deuteronomy 34:9), the imposition of hands symbolized the conveyance of grace and power. The rite has been retained under the new law, and in two instances (the imposition of hands in ordination and confirmation) it has received a sacramental efficacy.
