Feast of Saint Philip and Saint James, by Father Médaille

Saint Philip and Saint JamesOn Three Things Our Lord Recommends to His Disciples

The first is patience: “I send you as sheep in the midst of wolves.” (Matthew 10:16) We must be prepared to suffer many things if we desire to labour for the salvation of souls.

The second is disinterestedness, We must look for nothing save the glory of God and the salvation of our neighbour. Any one who labours selfishly for the world only and its vanities cannot advance the interests of God.

The third is great zeal: “The harvest indeed is great,” (Matthew 9:37) and ready for the reapers. We must work, and ask God to bless our labours.
