Father Thomas Cusack


Priest in the Missionary Society of Saint Columban, ordained in 1934. Missionary to Korea in 1935. During World War II, Father Cusak was captured by the Japanese, and spent several years in a prisoner of war camp. Released after the War, he returned to his missionary work in Korea in the area of Mok-po. During the Korean War, he refused to abandon his parishioners, and was captured by North Korean Communist raiders in June 1950, imprisoned in abusive conditions for a couple of months, and then executed. His Cause for Canonization as a martyr has opened.
