Father Julian Edmund Tenison Woods


Priest and scientist. He accompanied Bishop Willson to Tasmania, as assistant in the Catholic schools, was ordained there, became director general of schools, and for eleven years labored with great success in New South Wales, Queensland, and Tasmania. In the meantime he developed his interest in geology and natural science, wrote “Geological Observations in South Australia,” reported on the coal resources of the East for the British government, explored the mineral districts of South Australia, Java, and Siam.
