Father Johann Jakob Baegert


Jesuit missionary and ethnographer. He spent 19 years on the Californian mission, till the expulsion of the Jesuits in 1767. In 1773 he published a work on Lower California, which gives an account of the topography, the Native customs and language, and the history of the mission. A revised edition was issued by the Smithsonian Institution, 18631864.
