Sulpician priest and missionary. For 25 years he labored among the Indians in Canada, learning the Algonquin and Iroquois tongues and founding Indian posts, one of which, the Fort of the Presentation, became the town of Ogdensburg, New York. He returned to France in 1772, worked as a parish priest and chaplain to a convent, and retired from ministry in 1779.
