Father Carlo Braga

His mother died when Carlo was very young. Educated by the Salesians of Don Bosco in Sondrio, Italy, and he joined the Salesians when he was 17. Served in the army for three years during World War I. Priest. Missionary to China where he concentrated on children and education, running Salesian schools, and where he worked with and impressed Saint Luigi Versiglia. Salesian Provincial in 1939. During his leadership, the Salesians built schools and orphanages in China, and educated at least 10,000 children. However, with the rise of Communism in China, their schools were closed, evangelization was prohibited, and Father Carlo was forced to continue his mission in Indochina (Vietnam) and the Philippines. Chosen Salesian Provincial again in 1955. His Cause for Canonization has opened.
