English Martyrs

Those known to have suffered death in England for the Catholic Faith and for the primacy of the Roman Pontiff, from 1535 to 1681. There are over 600. Though they all died heroically, many led such retired and obscure lives that there is very little known about them, which has hindered even the introduction of their Cause for Canonization. Those who have been beatified, canonized, or declared venerable have separate articles. In a few cases nothing is known of the martyr except his name.
