Councils of Nicaea


Respectively the First and Seventh AEcumenical Councils, held at Nicaea in Bithynia. The First Council of Nicaea was held in 325 on the occasion of the heresy of Arius. Other matters dealt with were the controversy as to the time of celebrating Easter and the Meletian schism. The Second Council of Nicaea was held in 787 to deal with Iconoclasm.
