Butler’s Lives of the Saints – Saint Avertin, Confessor

He was a holy deacon, who attended Saint Thomas of Canterbury in his exile, and in all his troubles. After the martyrdom of that prelate, Avertin consecrated himself to the service of the poor and strangers at Vinzai, a village in Touraine, where he happily ended his course about 1189.
