Breviary Hymns and Missal Sequences, Wednesday, Matins

cover to the ebook 'Breviary Hymns and Missal Sequences', translated by Archbishop Edward Gilpin BagshaweMost Holy Maker of the world,
Our Lord and Ruler, now look down;
Deliver us from hurtful sloth,
And let not sleep our senses drown.

O Holy Ghost, we Thee implore,
Do Thou forgive us all our sins;
We break the rest of silent night,
And now our song of praise begins.

And now do we uplift our hands,
And raise alike our hearts to Thee,
As in the night the Prophet bids,
And in the Acts of Paul we see.

Thou seest the evil we have done,
Our secret sins we do avow,
We groan in spirit as we pray,
Pardon for all our sins bestow.

Our prayer, O loving Father, grant,
And Thou, Coequal, Only Son,
With the Great Spirit Paraclete,
Reigning while endless ages run. Amen.
