Breviary Hymns and Missal Sequences, Thursday, Lauds

cover to the ebook 'Breviary Hymns and Missal Sequences', translated by Archbishop Edward Gilpin BagshaweBehold the golden light arise,
O may the darkened blindness cease,
Which by erroneous paths hath led
Us headlong from the ways of peace.

O may this light make glad and pure
Our hearts, and claim them for its own;
Let us not speak one word of guile,
Nor think things secret and unknown.

May the whole day so pass away,
That no false tongue, nor action vain,
Nor eyes immodest, cause a sin;
No guilty act our bodies stain.

The Mighty Watchman stands on high,
Who looks on us through all our days;
From early light till evening comes,
Our every action meets His gaze.

To God the Father glory be,
And also to His Only Son,
With the Great Spirit Paraclete,
Now, and while endless ages run. Amen.
