Breviary Hymns and Missal Sequences, Advent, Lauds

Advent Wreath; swiped from Wikimedia CommonsHark! Now a loud clear voice doth call,
Which through all darkened places sounds,
Let all our dreams fly far away,
Jesus shines forth from Heaven’s bounds.

Let slothful minds now briskly rise,
On earth no longer grovelling,
For now a new Star shineth out,
To take away each hurtful thing.

Behold, the Lamb is sent to us
Freely to take our debt away;
Let us then, one and all, with tears,
For His sweet mercy humbly pray:

That, when a second time He shines,
And the whole world with terror fills,
His love, not punishing our sins,
May then protect us from all ills.

Be power, honour, glory, praise,
To God the Father with the Son,
And to the Holy Paraclete,
While all the endless ages run. Amen.
