(Saint) Bishop Martyr (January 24) (1st century) The beloved disciple of the Apostle Saint Paul, who ordained him Bishop of Ephesus in Asia Minor and addressed to him two of the New Testament Epistles. About the year A.D. 97, or perhaps earlier, the infuriated worshippers of the great idol, “Diana of the Ephesians,” stoned the holy Bishop to death.
