Book of Saints – Thomas Plumtree

(Blessed) Martyr (January 4) (16th century) A priest of the North of England ordained in the reign of Queen Mary, who acted as Chaplain to the insurgents in the famous rising under the Earls of Northumberland and Westmoreland. He was offered his life on condition of his turning Protestant; and his courage in refusing makes his execution at Durham (A.D. 1570) to be rightly styled a martyrdom. His Christian name is sometimes given as William.
