(Saint) Bishop Martyr (October 30) (5th century) A Bishop of Altino near Venice. When a simple priest he had joined with Saint Alban, an African priest, in a mission to the heathens of Germany. Saint Alban met with his death at the hands of the Barbarians near Mainz about A.D. 400. Saint Theonestus returned to Italy and became a Bishop. The tradition is that he too was a Martyr, having been murdered by the Arians in A.D. 425.
