(Saints) Martyrs (May 4) (4th century) Egyptian and Palestinian Christians put to death (A.D. 311) under the Emperor Galerius in Palestine. The account of their martyrdom is given by Eusebius, who places first among them Saint Silvanus, Bishop of Gaza. The tortures to which they were put were frightful and terribly varied. The total number of victims is not given; but Eusebius, an eyewitness, tells us that in a single day thirty-nine perished.
