Book of Saints – Marcian, Nicanor, Apollonius and Others

(Saints) Martyrs (June 5) (4th century) Egyptian Martyrs in the persecution under Diocletian and Galerius, at the beginning of the fourth century. Some curious details are given of their sufferings. They were exposed without food or drink to the rays of the June sun, and at the same time choice viands and cooling drinks were laid out near them to be had at the price of offering incense to an idol. They kept repeating the words of Christ: “Not in bread alone does man live”; and persevered to the end chanting the praises of God.
