Book of Saints – Mamelta

(Saint) Martyr (October 17) (5th century) Several Martyrologies register this holy woman, who probably suffered in the fifth century. She is said to have been a heathen priestess in Persia, converted to Christianity by the instrumentality of her sister, who was a Christian. She was baptised by a Bishop; but while still wearing her baptismal robe, was seized by the Pagans, put to the torture, stoned and finally drowned in a lake.
