Book of Saints – John of the Grate

(Saint) Bishop (February 1) (12th century) A saintly Bishop of Saint Malo in Brittany, the father of his people, who on his holy death (A.D. 1163) insisted on venerating him as a Saint. After the lapse of some centuries Pope Leo X sanctioned their devotion. The expression “Of the Grate” merely refers to the iron grating that surrounded the shrine of the Saint.
