Book of Saints – Humbert of Savoy


(Blessed) (March 4) (12th century) The Count of Savoy, ancestor of the Royal House of Piedmont, whom his descendants have taken as their Patron Saint. He was a good and wise monarch, brave and victorious in warfare, a lover of justice, loyal to the Church and a man of singular piety. He died A.D. 1188 at Chambery, while on his way at the head of his troops to repel an invasion of the Emperor of Germany.
