Book of Saints – Heraclas


(Saint) Bishop (July 14) (3rd century) An Egyptian, brother of Saint Plutarch the Martyr. He was at first the pupil, and afterwards the successor of the famous Origen, master of the Catechetical School of Alexandria. Elected Patriarch (A.D. 231 or A.D. 233), Heraclas governed with dignity and success the important Church of Egypt, till his death, A.D. 247. He was succeeded by Saint Dionysius.
