EVERGISTUS (EBREGESILUS) (Saint) (October 24) Bishop Martyr (5th century) A Bishop of Cologne and successor of Saint Severinus in the fifth century. A Prelate of great zeal and sanctity and distinguished by his assiduity and confidence in prayer. While visiting the town of Tongres he was set upon and killed by robbers. Many miracles have been worked at his shrine. — Another saintly Bishop of Cologne of the same name is put on record by Saint Gregory of Tours as having been renowned for the working of miracles about a century later.
