Book of Saints – Deicola


DEICOLA (DEICOLUS, DICHUL) (Saint) (January 18) Abbot. (7th century) Irish by birth, he, with Saint Gallus, followed Saint Columbanus into Gaul and took part in the foundation of the Abbey of Luxeuil. But when his master was driven into Switzerland and Italy, Deicola, remaining behind, founded another monastery at Lure in the Vosges mountains, where he died in great fame of sanctity at an advanced age (A.D. 621).
