Book of Saints – Cletus

bas relief statue of Pope Saint Cletus, date and artist unknown; Saint Peter's Basilica, Rome, ItalyArticle

(Saint) Pope, Martyr (April 26) (1st century) A Roman of Patrician birth who succeeded Saint Linus in Saint Peter’s Chair (A.D. 76), and died A.D. 83, under Domitian. To him is attributed the dividing of the city of Rome into parishes. It may be taken as proved that Saint Cletus is not (as in modern times has been asserted) one and the same with Saint Anacletus. The latter succeeded to, the former preceded, Saint Clement in the Pontificate.
