BENILDES (Saint) Martyr (June 15) (9th century) A holy woman of Cordova, who was so moved by the fortitude displayed by Saint Athanasius, a Spanish priest, during his martyrdom at the hands of the Moorish invaders of the country, that she braved death at the stake on the following day (A.D. 853). Her ashes were thrown into the river Guadalquivir.
