Book of Saints – Benedict – 23 March


BENEDICT (Saint) (March 23) (6th century) A monk of Campania, mentioned by Saint Gregory the Great, whom the Goths, under Totila, when devastating Italy, tried to burn alive, but were miraculously prevented from effecting their purpose (A.D. 550). This Saint Benedict was a contemporary of the great Saint Benedict of Nursia, and was personally known to him.
