Book of Saints – Bartholomew – 11 November

BARTHOLOMEW (Saint) Abbot. (November 11) (11th century) Born in Calabria but of Greek descent, he followed Saint Nilus to the foundation of the monastery of Grotta Ferrata near Rome, which is still peopled with Greek monks who retain all the distinctive features of the Oriental rite. Saint Bartholomew became Abbot of the monastery, where he died A.D. 1054. He has left a Life of Saint Nilus of which he was the author.
