Book of Saints – Balther


BALTHER (Saint) Confessor (March 6) (8th century) An Anchoret at Tinningham on the Scottish border, where he lived on a solitary rock (Bass Rock, near North Berwick), almost surrounded by the sea. He died, famous for sanctity and miracles, A.D. 756. Under King Canute, his body, with that of Saint Bilfrid, was translated to Durham. Some identify Saint Balther with Saint Baldred of Scotland.
