Book of Saints – Auxentius – 14 February


AUXENTIUS (Saint) Abbot. (February 14) (5th century) Born in Syria, but of Persian ancestry, he served as a soldier in the bodyguard of the Emperor Theodosius the Younger. Later in life he retired to the Desert of Oxea in Bithynia, where he gathered disciples around him. He appeared to have done all that was in his power in defense of the Catholic Faith at the time of the Council of Chalcedon; but speedily returned to his cell, and soon after passed away.
