Book of Saints – Attracta


ATTRACTA (Saint) Virgin (August 11) (5th century) An Irish Saint, probably a contemporary of Saint Patrick. Having embraced the religious life, she founded a monastery in the present County of Sligo (Killaraght), and another in the County of Roscommon. She was renowned far and wide for her charity to the poor and for the hospitality she extended to wayfarers and to the homeless. Precise dates cannot be fixed with any certainty.
