Book of Saints – Athanasius – 5 July


ATHANASIUS (Saint) Martyr (July 5) (5th century) A deacon of Jerusalem. He denounced the heretic Theodosius, who had supplanted the Catholic Saint Juvenal in the See of Jerusalem. For his act of zeal the good deacon was seized by the soldiery, scourged and beheaded (A.D. 452).
