Book of Saints – Asterius – 10 June

ASTERIUS (Saint) Bishop (June 10) (4th century) Formerly an Arian, who after his conversion, became Bishop of Petra in Arabia, and gained the hatred of the heretics by publishing the story of their intrigues at the Council of Sardica (A.D. 347). Banished to Africa by the Emperor Constantius, but recalled by Julian the Apostate, he assisted at the Council of Alexandria (A.D. 362), and was chosen to be the bearer of the letter from the Council to the Church of Antioch. He seems to have died a year or two later.
