Book of Saints – Apollinaris – 8 January


APOLLINARIS (Saint) Bishop (January 8) (2nd century) A Bishop of Hierapolis in Phrygia, and one of the great lights of the Early Church. He refuted the doctrines of Christian Stoicism promulgated by Tatian, and exposed the hypocrisy of the heretic Montanus. In the year 177 he delivered Ins famous Apology for the Christians to Marcus Aurelius, the philosophic Emperor. He died about A.D. 180. He is also called Claudius Apollinaris.
