Book of Saints – Anacharius


ANACHARIUS (AUNAIRE) (Saint) Bishop (September 25) (6th century) Of a rich and noble family at Orleans, who spent his youth at the Court of Gunthram, King of Burgundy. Renouncing the world, he placed himself under the guidance of Saint Syagrius, Bishop of Autun; and on the death of Saint AEtherius was chosen as his successor in the See of Auxerre (A.D. 572). He attended the Councils of Paris (A.D. 573) and of Macon (A.D. 583). In a special Synod (A.D. 585) he added several disciplinary statutes to those already framed by the Councils. He died A.D. 650.
